Vidal de Canellas & Fueros de Aragón Buildings
It consists in the reconversion of the pavilions of Expo Zaragoza 2008 located in a meander of the river Ebro in office buildings respecting the structural skeleton and taking advantage of certain facilities.
The intervention covers a total length of 130 linear meters in a southwest-northeast direction, under the representative common cover, inheritance of the Expo Zaragoza International Expo 2008.
The Lamela Study project stands out for its versatility, for the use of the surface, its singularity of design in front of a conventional business park, for its luminosity and for the privacy of the projected offices. The proposal sought above all to minimize the subsequent investment and the greatest possible reconversion and recycling, respecting the proposal and philosophy of Expo 2008. In addition, the transformation projected by Estudio Lamela revolves around the theme of Expo 2008, "Water and Sustainable Development "And relates to the environment, energy savings, the use of materials and suitable guidelines. The projects stand out for their commitment to the environment and sustainable development.
The proposed solution for the 164,180 m2 of surface of the Expo 2008 presents a set of volumes that, while maintaining coherence with its function, projects color and dynamism to the outside by means of a variable filter that adapts to the different parts of the buildings, Nurturing and enriching the relationships of the interior with its surroundings. "It has been bet," says Carlos Lamela, "by the rounded and sinuous forms with facades protected from the sun light by lamas of different colors."
Simplicity and simplicity of operation have been another of the guidelines in the conception of the project. In this sense, the circulations are made directly by the existing nuclei adapted to the new use and in a clear horizontal scheme throughout the plants. The entrances are produced by the internal pedestrian street and all this traversed by the sifted light that enters between the slats of the generated hollows in deck.
For Carlos Lamela, the RECICLA project has been a major challenge, "because of the numerous constraints with which it already started and the previous uses of the buildings." Thus, one of the initial challenges has been the difficulty of reconversion of buildings designed to meet the needs of exhibition halls, even if they were conceived in a flexible way in order to adapt to the future demand for commercial and office use .
